Principal Lawyer Michelle Meares

As a member of the Family Law Panel for Legal Aid NSW, our Principal Lawyer Michelle Meares has more than 10 years experience in the legal industry and has been practising on the Central Coast since 2014. Michelle’s focus is on achieving results for you in a cost effective way. She is a skilled negotiator and works to resolve your matter where possible without the need for litigation. If Court becomes necessary, Michelle is a persuasive advocate in the Court Room and will provide you with strong representation. Here are some of Michelle’s achievements:

  • admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and High Court of Australia.

  • was a Finalist for Regional Lawyer of the Year by NSW Womens Lawyer’s Association in 2019.

  • is the Secretary of the Central Coast Regional Law Society and a Councillor of the Law Society of NSW.

  • is a member of the Council for Law Reporting of NSW appointed by the Governor.

  • sits on the Family Law Committee; the Privacy and Data Law Committee and the Ethics Committee of the Law Society of NSW.

  • volunteers with the Central Coast Community Legal Centre and provides probono family law advice for clients of the Community Legal Centre.
  • has mentored young lawyers through her role on the Central Coast Regional Law Society and the Central Coast Women’s Leadership Program.
  • holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours); Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice; Bachelor of Arts (Communications/Anthropology) and Masters of Arts (Creative Writing).
  • published articles in Lawyers Weekly, Journal of Internet Law and the Law Society Journal.
  • presents CPD events for the legal profession and speaker at legal conferences/events including NSW Bar Association Women Barrister’s Forum, International Union for Conservation of Nature Academy of Environmental Law Annual Colloqium, Law Society of NSW Specialist Accreditation Conference, CLE by the Sea in Terrigal and Childbirth and the Law Forum.

The Central Coast Women’s Leadership Program

The Central Coast Women’s Leadership program has been running for 4 years on the Central Coast and pairs women in pre to middle management roles with women and men in senior leadership. The program has won NSW Business Chamber Awards and been a fantastic success.  There are mentors and participants from the Department of Finance, Central Coast Council, Fairhaven, Mars Group, Dashing Group, Job Centre Australia, Legal Aid, Hammond Care, Gosford Private Hospital. Star 104.5, Bounce Partners, NSW Better Regulation Department, NSW Police and Uniting.

The program was started by MacMasters Beach local Suzy Miller and aims to help women achieve leadership positions and improve the economic development for women, in regional areas of Australia.
